Shopee or Lazada Sale? [vc_row css_animation="" row_type="row" use_row_as_full_screen_section="no" type="full_width" angled_section="no" text_align="left" background_image_as_pattern="without_pattern"][vc_column][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text] Online shopping has become a trend nowadays, and most Filipinos have made this a part of their daily routine. The ease of browsing through your phone, ordering the item, the anticipation and expectation builds up as you wait for the item to be delivered. “Simple joy?!?” Simple expensive joys.... The question is, are you able to track and monitor how much you really spend on online shopping? Here are 3 money mistakes that a lot of those who are in their 20’s make: A 25 year old client of mine, having recently graduated, experiencing the limitations in resources imposed by his parents because of their family’s financial status experienced being overwhelmed by his income. He would spend his monthly pay on “WANTS.?” Worst, he would even be left with a loan after spending his entire salary. There is this lack of awareness in the difference between wants and needs, and the pitfall of overspending on wants. This 25 year old client of mine would spend hours browsing through online shopping apps, adding to cart anticipating the monthly sale, when asked why he would buy those stuff, he would reply “well, i earned it.”  What are wants by the way? Here are 3 conscience questions I ask ask myself before buying something:  a. Do I really need this? or do I still have something that I can use? b. Will buying this put money in my pocket? (For gadgets) c. Are those I am using really worn out and needs replacing? Lack of training and awareness in Money management, Once you receive your paycheck, how do you allocate your funds? You can start with the 50-30-20 rule in budgeting. Money management roots from discipline, delayed gratification. And the behavior of parents is very much critical in this form of discipline. Wants and Needs, they have to be defined, and since this is not being taught in school, it has to be taught at home. Start by teaching your kids, delayed gratification. Ask them, questions such as, if they already have a pair of shoes and it is very much in good condition, why the need to buy a new pair? [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row] #### Are Life Insurance Scams? [vc_row css_animation="" row_type="row" use_row_as_full_screen_section="no" type="full_width" angled_section="no" text_align="left" background_image_as_pattern="without_pattern"][vc_column][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text] I was introduced to the concept of life insurance  in 1996, a year after I graduated.  I bought my first policy with a Php 200,000 Coverage, and premiums of Php 3,200 yearly, which is what I could afford at that time. The agent who sold to me then, told me it can be a good avenue for me to start saving up for milestones and for my retirement. That time, the only type of insurance in the market were whole life policies, those that you pay continuously while you are alive, but it got me started. [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text] Given that I am not one  of those “BLESSED”  students who had firm financial backup and parents for “emergency funds.” I had to manage my finances taking into account always that “uncertainties” (sickness, accident, death) could always happen in this journey called LIFE. Risk management was something that I believed in and held onto. I bought memorial plans, cremation plans, invested in money market through banks, and  life insurance policies for me and my mom. [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text] Then, my career as a financial advisor began when I was recruited by the same agent who sold me my first policy. It was challenging for a fresh grad, given that in 1996, life insurance was not as popular. [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text] Let’s now answer the question, is life insurance a scam? [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text] Point blank, I would like to tell you that NO, it is not a scam. It is a 100% legitimate vehicle to help you protect everything that you love and care for. It helps in the creation and augmentation of funds.  The money which we do not hold, we can create for needs like, treatment of a critical illness, funds for the education of our children, amortizing for our retirement. It is the best financial solution in the market too, it is the only asset that becomes liquid at the time of death, all other assets are frozen and estate taxable.  [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text] While the life insurance concept is not a scam, you have to screen the legitimacy of the company and quickest and surest way to do this is through the Insurance Commission website. After you have validated the company, sit down with an agent who will help you sort out your current life stage and your need. Note that, the agent also has to discuss with you the limitations of the policies that you are pulling out. A trustworthy agent does not only tell you of the benefits that come with a plan, but also the fine print and possible downsides of each package. Limitations will also help you validate that the policy is not a scam. [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text] Not all products are created equally and once you have set an expectation that while some life insurance packages include an investment package, it should not be solely used for investment purposes since the market conditions can change at any time. The main purpose of a life insurance is there to replace your income for your family in the event of an accident, sickness or inevitably, death. [vc_row css_animation="" row_type="row" use_row_as_full_screen_section="no" type="full_width" angled_section="no" text_align="left" background_image_as_pattern="without_pattern"][vc_column][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text] Shopping has been a “coping mechanism”. This has become a tagline for my eldest daughter, particularly during this pandemic. She would always allot a portion of her allowance and income for the monthly shopee sales.... 6.6; 7.7. The question would always be, how do you teach your kid’s how to manage their money? Here are 3 tips for teaching kids about money management: 1. Be a role model, modeling entails, sharing with them, what you do with your income, what you prioritize, define necessary and unnecessary? This lockdown was an eye opener, and a blessing, I would say. I am able to interact and share insights with my daughter. I shared with her that my bonus was recently allotted to buy life insurance. With wide eyes, she told me, what?!? Whoever allots bonuses for insurance? Why not go shopping with it? Here I explained, “ I have your best interest in mind, I seek to ensure that should something happen to me, I will not be burden to you,” and she understood. For my little girls, I also train them by asking them simple questions like, if you already have a pair of shoes and it is still in good condition, do we need to buy a new one? And they would reply with, “no Mommy, I already have one.” 2. Don’t always give them money especially for unnecessary things , you will have your chance to explain to them the importance of reflecting before buying anything. This will also give them a clearer picture as to the value of what is being spent and help them be creative at trying to earn their own money or recycling and creating new items from the old, if they really fancy changing something. Before buying anything, I would ask myself the following questions, a. My necessary question - Is this essential? Am I going to die if I do not buy this? b. My happiness question - If I were to buy this item, will it make me happy for longer than a few days? Otherwise, that would count as a non-essential. 3. Open a bank account or an investment account for them, deposit the monetary gifts that is given them. This is a way of showing them that you respect that this. Money is for them and you are ensuring that you will grow this money for their future. Show them how much they’ve already set aside and encourage them to keep on adding to it from their allowance and from their salaries when they start to work. Money management is discipline, discipline starts at home. The skills you teach them now will enable them to be successful in the future. Agree? [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row] #### Best HMO for Seniors Plan in the Philippines [vc_row css_animation="" row_type="row" use_row_as_full_screen_section="no" type="full_width" angled_section="no" text_align="left" background_image_as_pattern="without_pattern"][vc_column][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text] The wellbeing of our parents should always come first in this day and age. Here’s Why We Don’t Recommend It And Some Alternatives [vc_row css_animation="" row_type="row" use_row_as_full_screen_section="no" type="full_width" angled_section="no" text_align="left" background_image_as_pattern="without_pattern"][vc_column][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text] Why do we loan from money lenders? When faced with financial challenges, why does this seemed to be the first option that comes to mind? In money management, awareness of what are the available options in the market is always the most important. And the options will only be widest and broadest when we build credibility and develop a habit of setting aside a portion of our income. Financial institutions like, banks, credit card companies, Life Insurance companies provide alternative vehicles to augmenting funds in times of uncertainties. Always remember, starting early is always key. I’d like to share with you the Pros and Cons of borrowing from 5-6 and the better alternatives to it. 5-6 Pros 1. It is easily accessible, that’s the reasons it is the first alternative that come to mind. 2. It is a no collateral, no document loan, which can be paid daily, weekly, monthly, 3. Collection arrangement made by the money lender or they will probably ask for your payroll ATM. 5-6 Cons Very high interest rates, minimum 20% and can go as high as 60% for a Php 500 peso loan, the interest is Php 100.00. So high that the interest rates are even higher than the loan amount. Here are the better alternatives: 1.Credit Cards offer the following options; a. 0% interest conversion of 3 to 6 months b. Conversion to 12, 18 or 24 months with a minimal processing fee of 250.00 and monthly add on interest rates which can range from .70% to 1.5%. c. in-store purchases for appliances, gadgets and department store items offers both buy now pay later, and instalment of 3 months to 6 months, 0% interest. d. After all, your hard earned money has to be worth more. Here’s the Real Deal Whenever a new financial law is passed, fear spreads fast. Many Filipinos are worried about the Capital Markets Efficiency Promotion Act (CMEPA, RA 12214) because they think the government will start taxing their entire savings. That’s not true. The law, which takes effect on July 1, 2025, only taxes the money you earn from your savings and investments—not the money you’ve worked hard to set aside. Here’s an example. If you have ₱50,000 in the bank and it earns ₱1,000 in interest, the tax applies only to the ₱1,000. Your ₱50,000 stays untouched. That’s the heart of CMEPA—it’s not designed to take your money, but to standardize how earnings are taxed and to lower the cost of investing. Before this law, the system was messy. Taxes on bank deposits weren’t consistent. Sometimes it was zero, sometimes 20 percent. With CMEPA, it’s now a flat 20 percent. That means if you earn ₱1,000 in bank interest, ₱200 goes to tax. For dividends, which are the profit shares companies pay to their investors, the rules also change. Before, rates varied and could go higher. Now, it’s always 10 percent. So if you receive ₱1,000 in dividends, only ₱100 goes to tax—you keep ₱900. Selling shares also becomes easier to understand. In the past, capital gains from local and foreign shares were taxed differently, with foreign ones often higher. Now, both are taxed at a flat 15 percent. The biggest win, though, is for stock investors. Every time you sold stocks before, you paid 0.60 percent of the selling price as tax. CMEPA cuts that down to 0.10 percent. If you sell ₱10,000 worth of stock, you now pay ₱10 in tax instead of ₱60. That’s money back in your pocket. Even stamp taxes are lighter. Issuing new shares or debt papers used to be taxed at 1 percent. It’s now 0.75 percent. And here’s an extra piece of good news—when you buy or sell mutual funds and UITFs, you no longer pay documentary stamp tax at all. So why did the government do this? The main goal is to encourage Filipinos to save and invest more by making the system cheaper and fairer. More investing means more money flowing into businesses, more jobs, and a stronger economy. But it’s not all good news. There are downsides too. The flat 20 percent tax on bank interest means even small savers will now see a chunk taken out. With bank interest rates already low, deposits will grow even slower. For people who prefer safety and don’t want to risk investing, this feels discouraging. The law is clearly tilted toward pushing Filipinos to invest, which isn’t risk-free. Still, for millennials and Gen Z, CMEPA could be a turning point. You’ve been dealing with rising expenses, side hustles, and loans while trying to build wealth. Saving in the bank feels safe, but slow. Investing has always seemed expensive or intimidating. This law makes it cheaper and simpler to start. Your savings won’t disappear, but they also won’t grow much after tax. On the other hand, investing in stocks, mutual funds, or UITFs becomes more practical, even with small amounts. CMEPA doesn’t take your savings. It changes how your money grows. The trade-off is clear—bank deposits stay safe but feel weaker, while investments now give you a fairer chance to make your money work harder. If you’ve been waiting for the right time to start investing, July 2025 might be the moment to finally take that step. #### Finance In A Minute Awarded at Pacific Cross National Sales Conference [vc_row css_animation="" row_type="row" use_row_as_full_screen_section="no" type="full_width" angled_section="no" text_align="left" background_image_as_pattern="without_pattern"][vc_column][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text] Finance in a Minute recently celebrated a huge success at the Pacific Cross National Sales Conference, where they recognized their top agents and advisors for achieving their sales goals. HMOs, or Health Maintenance Organizations, can provide comprehensive coverage for seniors, but choosing the right one can be overwhelming. This guide offers tips and tricks to help you navigate the process and find the best HMO for your needs. [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height="20px"][vc_column_text]Understand the Different Types of HMOs[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height="20px"][vc_column_text] Before choosing an HMO, it’s important to understand the different types available. There are three main types of HMOs: staff model, group model, and network model. Staff model HMOs employ their own doctors and healthcare providers, while group model HMOs contract with a group of doctors and healthcare providers. Network model HMOs contract with a network of doctors and healthcare providers, but allow members to see providers outside of the network for an additional cost. Pacific Cross Insurance for Seniors is under the Network model as any doctor and provider is accepted for reimbursement as long as you have an official receipt. Understanding the differences between these types of HMOs can help you make an informed decision about which one is right for you. [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height="20px"][vc_column_text]Check the Network of Doctors and Hospitals[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height="20px"][vc_column_text] When choosing an HMO for senior citizens, it’s important to check the network of doctors and hospitals. Make sure that the HMO has a network of healthcare providers that are conveniently located and easily accessible. You should also check if the HMO has partnerships with hospitals and medical facilities that specialize in senior care. This can ensure that you receive the best possible care for your specific healthcare needs. Additionally, make sure that the HMO covers the medications and treatments that you need, and that there are no restrictions or limitations on the services you can receive. [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height="20px"][vc_column_text]Look for Additional Benefits and Services[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height="20px"][vc_column_text] When choosing an HMO for senior citizens, it’s important to look beyond just the basic healthcare coverage. Many HMOs offer additional benefits and services that can greatly benefit seniors. For example, some HMOs offer wellness programs, transportation services, and even home healthcare services. These additional benefits can help seniors stay healthy and independent for longer. Be sure to ask about any additional benefits and services that the HMO offers, and consider how they can benefit you or your loved one. [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height="20px"][vc_column_text]Consider the Cost and Coverage[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height="20px"][vc_column_text] When choosing an HMO for senior citizens, it’s important to consider both the cost and coverage. Look at the monthly premiums, deductibles, and co-pays to ensure that the plan is affordable and fits within your budget. Additionally, make sure that the plan covers the healthcare services and treatments that you or your loved one needs. Consider any pre-existing conditions or chronic illnesses that require ongoing care, and make sure that the plan covers those services. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and compare different HMOs to find the best fit for your needs. [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height="20px"][vc_column_text]Read Reviews and Ask for Recommendations[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height="20px"][vc_column_text]One of the best ways to choose the right HMO for senior citizens is to read reviews and ask for recommendations from friends, family, and healthcare professionals. Look for reviews online from other seniors who have used the plan, and pay attention to any common complaints or issues. Ask your doctor or other healthcare providers for their recommendations, as they may have experience working with different HMOs and can provide valuable insight. But it can be hard to know where to start. Here are some things you might want to consider: 1. Getting health insurance for your parents is a sign of love. It shows that you are invested in their well-being and that you are willing to make sacrifices for them. 2. Protecting their savings is crucial for elderly loved ones who may not have much income or assets, but still need assistance with basic living costs. 3. Preparing for unexpected medical expenses is also important because it helps make sure your parents are taken care of in case something happens to them unexpectedly (like a heart attack!).[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text] Luckily, there are still some ways you can help your parents get covered without breaking the bank! Here are some tips: 1) Look into short-term health insurance plans. These policies are designed specifically for individuals who need coverage quickly—like when they go on vacation or need to cover a family emergency. You can usually find these plans with lower monthly premiums than traditional plans and no deductible! Such is is the case for our Pacific Cross Health Plan for seniors. You may get in touch with us to inquire about this package. 2) Take advantage of employer-sponsored benefits. Many companies offer employee-only health care plans (EOHCPs), which provide comprehensive coverage at a low cost with minimal restrictions on benefits and cost sharing (no co-pays or co-insurance). You may ask your company's Human Resources department if your plan allows for you to add a beneficiary such as your parents, these typically costs less than paying individually for their plans. 3) Always SAVE UP and keep your emergency funds LIQUID. Make sure that when the time comes that you will need to dip into your emergency funds, these funds are easily withdrawable without any penalties. You want a savings account in a bank with the most ATMs available as well since you want your fund source to be accessible no matter where you are. 4) Finally, prevention is key! Make sure to encourage your parents to visit their doctors regularly, get lab tests and diagnostic procedures done on time, and to regularly take their maintenance medicine to prevent worsening of their illness. The more well managed the condition is, the less chance there is of being hospitalized. [vc_row css_animation="" row_type="row" use_row_as_full_screen_section="no" type="full_width" angled_section="no" text_align="left" background_image_as_pattern="without_pattern"][vc_column][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text] In my 25 years in this industry of insuring individuals, I would always observe that when you ask a person to list down their financial priorities, insurance would either be the last or even unfound in the list. Sometimes, they would even tell you that they are ok, they are healthy, and that they do not need insurance. One time, I even asked a good friend of mine, “Why is it so difficult to pay for your life insurance given that it will benefit you and can serve as your savings for your older self?” I didn’t get a reply, but the objection stopped. Life Insurance is one of the greatest assets that a person can ever have, because of the following reasons: 1. It can protect and provide for the family in the event of the loss of a bread winner. 2. It provides funds that can be used for the treatment of a critical illness and for living expenses while recovering from the illness. 3. It can provide funds for medical expenses and final expenses in the demise of a loved one. 4. It can protect your assets from depletion due to estate taxes. 5. It can be your “pamana” to your kids and grandchildren. 6. It can be your forced savings for retirement. 7. It can be an avenue for you to save for your child’s college education. Life Insurance in the Philippines is not as detailed as insurances offered in western countries wherein a specific body part can be insured particularly if, for instance, that is an asset for your job. In the Philippines, our insurance focuses more on the general aspects. see this list of what can usually be covered by Philippine life insurance companies: 1. Loss of Life whether through illness or accidents, wherein there is an additional amount given to the family if the cause of death is an accident. 2. Coverage for Specific Critical Illnesses, such as cancer, female illnesses, etc, wherein a lump sum is given upon the diagnosis of a critical illness. 3. Pure Accident Insurance 4. Educational Fund, that secures funds for the education of your child and ensures that whether you are alive or gone, you fulfill that lifelong dream of sending your child to school. Riders, on the other hand, are additional benefits that can be attached to a plan to augment what it offers: 1. Coverage for dismemberment where a percentile of the face amount is given to the insured if dismembered due to an accident. 2. Disability waiver of premium, which waives the premiums in case of disability due to an illness or an accident. 3. Disability payout, wherein a portion of the coverage is paid out in case of disability due to an accident. 4. Burial Benefit, which is a benefit given if the insured dies due to natural death—amount to be given is dependent on the PA package chosen 5. Murder and Assault – if the insured dies due to murder, one-half (1/2) of the benefits indicated in the schedule of losses not exceeding PhP 1 million will be paid 6. Hospital Income Benefit – an allowance is paid out to the insured when he is hospitalized. Insuring against risk is highly important to secure that your family does not deplete funds that are allotted for other financial needs. Whether your budget allows for the basic coverage or product specific lines, do this NOW and do it for YOURSELF and for your FAMILY. This overwhelming cycle of borrowing, paying, and borrowing again can feel endless. However, with the right approach to money management and the discipline to stick to it, anyone can break free from this financial struggle. It’s time to start thinking about how to get out of debt and take control of your finances, so you can save, invest, and enjoy more financial freedom. In this simple guide, we will walk you through actionable steps to help you get on track towards a debt-free and financially secure life.  [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text] 1. Understand Your Financial Situation [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text] The first step in getting out of debt is to know exactly where you stand. Before you can make any changes, you need to take an honest assessment of your income, expenses, and debts. Ask yourself these questions: ✔ How much do I earn each month? – This includes your salary, side hustles, commissions, or any other sources of income.   ✔ How much do I spend each month? – Track your expenses including rent, utilities, food, transportation, and even small purchases.   ✔ How much debt do I have? – Make a list of your debts, including credit card balances, loans, and any overdue bills. Don’t forget to note interest rates and payment deadlines. Action Step: Write everything down in a notebook or use a free budgeting app like Goodbudget or Wallet to keep track of your income and expenses.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text] 2. Cut Unnecessary Expenses  [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text] Now that you have a clear view of your finances, it's time to cut down on unnecessary spending. This is a critical step if you want to know how to get out of debt fast. ✔ Avoid Impulse Buying: Always ask yourself, "Do I really need this?" before purchasing anything.   ✔ Eat at Home: Preparing meals at home rather than eating out can save you a significant amount.   ✔ Reduce Unnecessary Subscriptions: Cancel unused memberships or apps like streaming services or gym memberships.   ✔ Limit Luxuries: It's fine to treat yourself every now and then, but always within your budget. Action Step: Set a weekly spending limit for non-essential items and make sure to stick to it. [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text] 3. Pay Off Your Debts Strategically [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text] Your top priority is paying off your debt. Two proven methods to do this are the Snowball Method and the Avalanche Method. ✔ Snowball Method: Pay off the smallest debt first to gain motivation, then tackle larger ones.   ✔ Avalanche Method: Pay off the debt with the highest interest rate first. This is the most efficient method in terms of saving on interest. For example, if you have a ₱3,000 loan (5% interest) and a ₱10,000 credit card balance (10% interest), the avalanche method would suggest paying off the credit card balance first because it’s more expensive due to the higher interest rate. Action Step: Make sure you pay more than the minimum amount on your debts each month, using the method that works best for you.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text] 4. Build an Emergency Fund [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text] Once you’ve started to make progress on your debt, it’s time to build an emergency fund. This will help ensure that you don't fall back into debt when unexpected expenses arise. ✔ Start Small: Aim to save at least ₱50-₱100 per day.   ✔ Aim for 3-6 Months of Expenses: This is a solid goal for your emergency fund.   ✔ Choose a Safe Savings Option: Store your emergency fund in a safe, high-interest account like a digital bank. ✔ Add Another Stream of Income: Try to discover other ways that you can earn money by adding a side hustle on your free time. Action Step: Open a separate savings account specifically for your emergency fund and automate a small deposit from each payday.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text] 5. Start Investing for the Future [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text] Once you’ve secured an emergency fund and reduced your debt, it’s time to think about building wealth for the future. ✔ Stock Market & Mutual Funds: Great for long-term wealth-building.   ✔ Pag-IBIG MP2 & Digital Banks: Ideal for beginners who want safe, higher interest returns.   ✔ Side Hustles & Small Business: Use extra savings to start a business for passive income. Action Step: Start with small, simple investments like Pag-IBIG MP2 or a trusted mutual fund. You can gradually grow your investments over time.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text] 6. Reward Yourself (But Wisely!) [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text] Managing money doesn’t mean you can't enjoy life! As you make progress in getting out of debt, reward yourself, but do it smartly. ✔ Plan for Travel or Gadgets: Save for these things instead of using debt.   ✔ Give Back to Family: Help out your loved ones, but make sure you have a plan.   ✔ Invest in Yourself: Take courses, learn new skills, or start a passion project. Action Step: Set aside a small percentage of your income into a “Rewards Fund” for personal enjoyment without straining your budget.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text] Final Thoughts: Small Changes, Big Results [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text] It takes patience and discipline to manage your money effectively, but the results are worth it. One of the most misunderstood financial tools is Life Insurance. A lot of people would always think of all the excuses why it is not a valuable investment, and it would take countless discussions and an open mind before the realization sets in. Sometimes… too late during one’s lifetime….. I am hoping that in your search for value, I will be able to share valuable insights for you to make this a part of your priority as you embark on securing your financial future. One of the most common mistakes is thinking along the investment side of the insurance policy, a lot of clients would always look into, how much I would get at the end of the term versus the total amount that I have contributed across the years. On the contrary, the worth of your policy should be computed based on how much we are paying per thousand vs the total coverage it will provide once the unexpected occurs (death, disability and critical illness). At whatever stage in your life you are into, just graduated/single, starting a family, mid stage, raising growing kids, or retirement, life insurance is the most valuable risk management tool. And there will only be 3 basic reasons that it will not be worth it: 1. You will not die 2. You are 100% sure you will not get sick 3. You are 100% sure that you will not retire. Now, for you to be able to maximize on your policy, you have to profile, first and foremost the financial advisor that you are dealing with. Here are some tips on how to go about this, and red flags that you should watch out for, if you are starting to embark on your journey to building your portfolio: 1. How long has your Financial Advisor been in the industry - This is essential, since as a newbie, your financial advisor will be your guide and he/she will help you through monitoring, modifying, augmenting, claiming. The after sales service is core of this journey, where tenure of the advisor will define that he/she will stay with the company and service you. 2. How will he/she begin after your initial meeting? Will he/she go straight to proposal? - Please note that while the products are there, this is not a one size fits all. Your FInancial Advisor should profile your life stage and your risk tolerance, whether you are for life insurance with investment which involves market risk or more for the traditional products with fixed premiums that accumulates cash value. Age is also a critical component in designing how you would like to save up for the 3 basic needs of protection, critical illness and retirement. 3. Try reading through the fine prints of the proposal that has been presented and ask your Financial Advisor what need will the said policy fulfill. Best if he/she would present the risk management profile more than the investment side. The Company you will invest in: 1. Check if the company is listed with the Insurance Commission, the Insurance Commission website is open for anyone to browse. 2. Check on the their paid claims, they would usually post this online. Paid Claims is one of the best markers of the strength of both the commitment and the financial position of the company. 3. How long has the insurance company been in operation in the Philippine Market, it is difficult to survive in our market and the length of time the company has been in the Philippines defines their strategy. 4. Check on how they train and monitor their agency force. Companies who train and monitor their agency well impose production quotas will help you ensure that the company understands the importance of the role of the financial advisor. A client of mine who was a professional told me she needed to withdraw from her policy because of a financial requirement, in the process of securing all the requirements, I was surprised to discover that she does not have a bank account under her name and her husband only has a payroll account. A 29 year old client of mine who works for a BPO and is into small business, when I ordered from her and asked her how I should pay, she asked me if I can send it to her via Cebuanna Lhuillier, she does not have a bank account neither did she attempt to open a Gcash account? In this fast moving society, I feel people who do not own a bank account do not see the value of having one and keeping one. Here are 5 reasons why I deem it necessary for each and everyone of us to have a bank account:        1. A bank account is the starting point of developing a habit of saving, it’s like a piggy bank, since it is not cash in the wallet the temptation of spending is impeded. As we habitually leave a portion of our income in our bank accounts, from there, we can start allocating for the different financial needs.       2. Opening a bank account will be the start of building credibility and relationship with the bank for future transactions. Did you know that, your bank account’ maintaining balance defines most of your requested bank transactions like a loan to buy your new car or your dream house? Banks would also help you in most financial undertakings like providing a capital for your small business which you can pay monthly across a period of 3 years or more with a sensible interest rate.       3. Bank accounts may help us develop a discipline of keeping a part of your income every payday. Leaving 20% of your monthly income would help you keep this discipline.       4. Bank accounts are also the basis for credit card issuance and Visa approvals which are tagged to the amount that you leave parked in your bank account for at least 6 months to a year.  If one of your dreams is to fund your travel, one of the most sensible ways to do this without bleeding on interest is through credit card promos and credit card solutions of lending you a portion of your credit limit for a low monthly interest rate. Take note however, that for you to enjoy this benefits, you have to show the credit card companies that you can pay them, how do you do this? The strongest proof is a bank statement detailing the deposits and withdrawals in your account.       5. Most Financial transactions nowadays will be from bank to bank or from other financial institutions to your bank account.  Going back to one of my stories above, the professional withdrawing from her policy, will either be issued a crossed check (can only be deposited to a bank account under her name) or the amount can be credited to a bank account under her name. Now she was obligated to visit a branch to open an account for us to complete her request. It is time to decide to start building your financial portfolio by opening a bank account, commitment is key to saving for your future. #### Is Money Consciousness Natural or Acquired? I would also like to be able to share this with as much people in the simplest language possible.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css_animation="" row_type="row" use_row_as_full_screen_section="no" type="full_width" angled_section="no" text_align="left" background_image_as_pattern="without_pattern" z_index=""][vc_column][vc_column_text] Money management starts from within, as a person, I would say, we have this built in money conciousness, there are people who are responsible in handling money, with a habit of keeping a portion of their income and gauging if buying something new is really necessary. However, in my experience, this is only about 1 out of 20 clients that I talk to, and you’d be surprise to note that, those who are not naturally money conscious come to their senses only when they reach age 30 or worst, older. There is a common misconception that dating someone who is financially stable is the key to a successful and secure relationship. Love, compatibility, shared values, and emotional connection play crucial roles in a successful relationship. It is essential to evaluate the overall compatibility before making judgments based solely on monetary factors. [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text] Personal Growth and Support [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text] Dating someone who may be going through financial hardship can also provide an opportunity for personal growth and support. During challenging times, a relationship built on genuine emotional connection can foster strength and resilience, encouraging collaborative problem-solving and personal development.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text] Understanding the Broke Situation [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text] Differentiating Temporary Circumstances from Irresponsibility [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text] Before making judgments, it is crucial to understand the reasons behind the financial situation. Is the person broke due to unfortunate circumstances, or is it a result of financial irresponsibility? Temporary setbacks such as job loss or unforeseen expenses can happen to anyone, and it is important to consider these factors before making a decision.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text] Communication and Transparency [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text] Open and honest communication is vital in any relationship. If your partner is currently facing financial struggles, engage in conversations about their situation. Understanding their perspective, future goals, and willingness to improve their financial situation can help provide clarity and make informed decisions.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text] Financial Compatibility and Future Prospects [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text] Shared Financial Goals and Values [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text] Financial compatibility includes having shared financial goals, values, and attitudes towards money. It is important to have conversations about financial habits, saving strategies, debt management, and long-term financial aspirations. Compatible financial mindsets can contribute to a healthier and more harmonious relationship.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text] The Role of Financial Responsibility [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text] While not dating someone solely based on their financial status is important, it is crucial to consider whether they display signs of financial responsibility and a willingness to learn and improve their situation. Responsible financial behavior, such as budgeting, saving, and managing debt, is indicative of their commitment to stability and future growth.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text] Choosing a partner should involve a holistic approach that considers various factors beyond financial stability. While financial compatibility is important, it should not overshadow the value of love, compatibility, and shared goals. By communicating openly about financial situations, personal growth, and future aspirations, individuals can make informed decisions about dating someone who may currently be financially strained. [vc_row css_animation="" row_type="row" use_row_as_full_screen_section="no" type="full_width" angled_section="no" text_align="left" background_image_as_pattern="without_pattern"][vc_column][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text] A lot of people have varying opinions as to what is more cost efficient and what is the better option between a Term vs VUL Insurance. In this article, I would like to give you a fair comparison of the basic difference between this two so that you can weigh your priorities and match which product best answers what you need. Please take note that in life insurance it is not a matter of “one size fits all.” Sit down with a professional Financial Advisor who will help you sort things out.  Let us first define both to help us better understand:  Variable Unit-Linked (VUL) is an investment-linked life insurance plan that provides protection and the opportunity to grow savings over time. The Insurance Protection part pays out a minimum guaranteed amount of insurance coverage in case of Insured’s death. Savings/Fund Value, Accumulates a variable & non-guaranteed amount that is linked to the investment fund/s chosen by the client.  A Term Insurance on the other hand is a type of insurance that is bought more for protection, where we pay a certain amount to be protected for a specified period of time. Coverage terminates the moment we stop paying for the premiums.  To compare, VUL is a combination of insurance with investment component where the investment portion may help keep the policy alive in case of delinquency in premium payments, while term insurance is purely protection that ceases the moment premiums are not paid.  Below is my outlook on the pros and cons on both:  Term Insurance Pros:  1. Cheapest form of insurance in the market.  2. The regular term insurance can be converted to either a VUL or a traditional life insurance policy anytime.  Term Insurance Cons: 1. Possibility of not sustaining coverage is high if you forget to pay your regular premiums.  2. If you want to keep the coverage, please note that while the initial premium is cheap, premiums increase every 5 years.  VUL Pros: You get the best of both worlds, where a portion of what you pay for is allotted for your insurance, and a certain amount goes to the investment part which works 2 ways, 1. It creates an investment portfolio, which grows overtime to fund your retirement, the education of your child or other future financial needs. 2. Protects and ensures continuing coverage, afforded by the fund value that you accumulate in the investment part of your portfolio.  3. For us Filipinos, it help develop the habit of setting aside a certain portion your income every month.  4. You get a loyalty bonus for keeping your policy in force, currently equal to 2% of average monthly fund balance of the past 5 years prior to the bonus payout  payable at the end of 10th policy year and every 5 years thereafter.  5. The investment portion is protected by the insurance part, in case something happens to the insured, both the insurance and investment are released to your beneficiaries.  VUL Insurance Cons: The length of the paying period may be affected by the performance of the investment portion, if you are looking at availing of the shortened paying period. VUL policies project at a certain rate of return where it can sustain the insurance till age 88 to 100, usually at 4%, if returns go lower, additional payment may be required. At the bottom of it all is your priority, budget and commitment to your financial goals. Take time to sit down and determine whether you need a Term vs VUL Insurance plan, this will keep you on track to financial success. Feel free to book a free consult with our financial adviser here. Lastly, the total assets metric can be a good signifier of how the life insurance company manages its assets. You have probably seen a life insurance provider as number one in a category, but second in another area. But whether the company is ranked one or 10 in any of those measurement categories, the chart above gives you a bird’s eye view of the top brands when it comes to providing life insurance.  While we listed some possible options you could choose from, the big decision to make is still in your hands. [vc_row css_animation="" row_type="row" use_row_as_full_screen_section="no" type="full_width" angled_section="no" text_align="left" background_image_as_pattern="without_pattern"][vc_column][vc_empty_space height="50px"][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css_animation="" row_type="row" use_row_as_full_screen_section="no" type="full_width" angled_section="no" text_align="left" background_image_as_pattern="without_pattern"][vc_column][vc_column_text] Health insurance is an essential aspect of life, especially for the elderly, whose healthcare expenses tend to increase as they age. However, most Filipino elderly avoid getting health insurance. In this blog post, we will discuss why that is and how Finance in a Minute's health insurance product Pacific Cross can provide peace of mind to those who are hesitant. The Belief in "Usog" According to our consultations, most parents do not like to talk about health insurance due to their belief in "Usog." "Usog" is a Filipino belief that by talking about sickness or accidents, they are tempting fate. Unfortunately, this belief can be detrimental to their health in the long run. It is essential to understand that not every sickness will result in death, and avoiding thinking about them can even result in a delay of timely intervention, which can worsen the situation. By having health insurance, they can have peace of mind and access medical facilities and professionals when necessary. The Importance of Having Health Insurance for Senior Citizens As we grow old, our healthcare expenses tend to increase, and this trend is seen more in the case of elderly people. Therefore, having health insurance can provide us with the necessary financial protection and peace of mind. Here are a few reasons why getting health insurance is essential for the elderly: 1. Not Every Sickness Will Result in Death It is essential to understand that not every sickness will result in death; therefore, we do not need to fear getting sick. With the right medical intervention, we can recover. 2. Timely Intervention Following the belief of "Usog" can result in a delayed timely intervention, which can worsen the situation. Health insurance offers access to medical facilities and professionals at the time of need. 3. Life Savings Should be Enjoyed! Our life savings should be used for exciting events like traveling and spending time with family and not for medical bills. Having health insurance can help avoid the financial burden of medical bills. 4. Health Insurance vs. Life Insurance Many elderly people confuse health insurance and life insurance. However, health insurance and life insurance are not the same. While some products may offer similar benefits, pure HMO insurance is not an investment product. Unlike life insurance, health insurance provides coverage for medical bills. 5. Waiting Period Most health insurance policies have a waiting period before the full benefits commence, which can take up to a year. However, sickness and accidents can happen anytime, and it's always better to be prepared. By having health insurance like Pacific Cross by Finance in a Minute, seniors can have coverage for the medical expenses that may arise. 6. Avoid Burdening Loved Ones Unexpected medical emergencies can pose a significant financial burden for families who do not have health insurance. Having health insurance can help get rid of this problem, and patients can focus on their recovery. 7. Faster Clinical Decision Making That Can Save Your Life Having the ease of knowing that we have the funds available just in case can allow for faster decision making when it comes to life-saving measures such as surgery or medications. Having Pacific Cross health insurance provided by Finance in a Minute makes the process seamless and quick. 8. However, when I started working, I came to a realization that the salary for a single job will not be able to build a solid and stable financial portfolio, sometimes, it can’t even support a family with kids and dependent parents. The Pandemic has shown us the “what ifs” that we fail to recognize and address for the longest time. Let us go through those [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text] 1. What if, the industry where my active income is sourced suddenly closes down?  [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height="16px"][vc_column_text] 2. What if my current business line slows down because technology has rendered it obsolete? [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height="16px"][vc_column_text] 3. What if I lose my current job? [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height="16px"][vc_column_text] 4. How about my retirement? How can I build a comfortable and worry free retirement beyond my working years? [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text] Planning and foresight are key to ensure that we do not fall short as we go through life’s milestones. [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text] Here are 7 Income Streams that you may want to explore: [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text] 1. Earned Income – income from working another job. you may want to take on additional consultancy or a weekend job probably? Since this is active income, it has to be something we are willing to devote time to learn, something we are passionate about or something we love to do. [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text] 2. Profit Income – Income from buying and selling. Choose a merchandise that may be of popular appeal, source your supplier and choose a platform to sell it to like Shoppee or Lazada or facebook. [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text] 3. Interest Income – Income from lending Money, note this comes with so much risk. [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text] 4. Royalty Income – Income from others using your ideas. Example of these are writing a book, and composing a song. [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text] 5. Dividend Income – Income from dividend paying stocks or dividend paying insurance policies. You have attend trainings to learn the ins and outs of investing money in the stock market. Purchasing a dividend paying insurance policy would also be an alternative. [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text] 6. Rental Income – Income from renting out a property. [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text] 7. Capital Gains – this is earned when your investment in property and other assets increase in value. When selecting insurance, it's important to also choose the right agent. I'm so grateful for the support of my agent, Ma'am Johanna. Last year, we applied for my parents' insurance, and just two weeks ago, when my dad was admitted to the hospital, we immediately reached out to her for advice. Even though I'm currently in Australia, I had my sister in the Philippines contact Ma'am Johanna to get a clear explanation of our coverage. I think my sister called Ma'am Johanna 2-3 times a day, as we faced a few challenges at the hospital. Thankfully, Ma'am Johanna was there to guide us and help resolve everything. Super recommended!!Ar. Leih Winona GonzalesJohanna is a one of a kind Financial Advisor, an FA who have a passion and genuine care for her clients. She deep dives on client needs, educates and presents prize of being financially independent beyond the monetary values that resulted in a goal driven and tailored fit policies for our Family. She monitors us from time to time, recommends to tweak our policies as necessary and lastly, she is really approachable for questions. These are the many reasons why we keep recommending Johanna to our colleagues and friends.Van Weisson ArroyoI have known Johanna and have worked with her since 2009. She is highly responsive, always professional, efficient, kind and patient. We have worked through many issues that have come up and our communication was always fluid and clear. Johanna always made things very easy for me. She guided me through the various products available and presented the best option for me – one that suited my financing and investment needs. Even when I was reluctant, she would always find the right words to calm my fears and help me make that important decision. I’ve always believed that passion, knowledge and a genuine interest in achieving the best for clients is what truly makes a professional Financial Adviser. Johanna has this and more. It is very heartwarming to work with an adviser who is truly interested in their clients’ needs, circumstances and preference. What impresses me most is her taking the time to understand my situation and feeling of where I was at…how far I could go. I’ve always felt like she knew the whole picture and if anything happened to me now, I know my family would be looked after. Thank you Johanna for being a friend, a confidant and my Financial Adviser!Amy Lee Gotianse-ErniI met Ate Johanna in 2015 and that time I was disappointed with a relative of mine who mishandled my insurance policy. I never thought that I would trust another financial advisor ever again but God is good that I was able entrust my first ever insurance policy with Ate Johanna under Sunlife. She was able to introduce me to the world of investment via mutual funds because inflation is inevitable, the value of setting aside emergency funds of at least 6-12 months, securing a memorial plan, the power of generating other sources of income and the importance of discernment. At this date, I already have 3 insurance policies, 1 VUL, 1 Term insurance, 1 Health insurance plus a memorial plan and HMO for added protection. As someone who knew her for a long time, I have so much confidence to tell everyone that she is not a fly by night financial advisor who would only promote products for her personal gain but instead values her clients, treats them as if they are also her family hence works smart and hard far beyond what is expected. Bottomline is, she deserves the blessings that she has right now. If you are looking for a respectable financial advisor to entrust your financial journey, then choose none other than her. Thank you for your lifelong commitment and support! God Bless you alwaysClarissa Angelique PasambaJohanna has been my financial advisor for 25 years now and she would still be in touch whenever its my due date or just to say hello. She was always reliable, never late, a guiding hand in all things financial. She has taken care of my insurance, my memorial plan, home insurance, travel insurance and health insurance. I have no hesitation letting her take care of us because I know she will be there, just a call away. What's more, my experience with her makes me very confident referring her to family and friends.Check Say[/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css_animation="" row_type="row" use_row_as_full_screen_section="no" type="grid" angled_section="no" text_align="left" background_image_as_pattern="without_pattern" css=".vc_custom_1621848928635{background-color: #d6b36e !important;}" z_index=""][vc_column width="1/4"][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_empty_space height="50px"][vc_column_text] Subscribe to our Newsletter [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height="50px"][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/4"][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css_animation="" row_type="row" use_row_as_full_screen_section="no" type="grid" angled_section="no" text_align="left" background_image_as_pattern="without_pattern" css=".vc_custom_1621848837730{padding-bottom: 50px !important;background-color: #d6b36e !important;}" z_index=""][vc_column width="1/4"][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/4"][vc_column_text] Want to learn more about money management and growing your wealth? What’s more, the non-guaranteed dividends which your policy may earn can be availed as a cash benefit that can be used to pay future premiums or purchase additional coverage. Dividends can also be left to accumulate. Flexible premium payments Make payment more convenient depending on your goals. Just 4 months since we started, one of us caught a virus and was hospitalized..good thing viral, bacterial and infectious diseases are covered during the first year! We got to claim 500k and we just paid below 19k for our insurance. Thank you Johanna for always being prompt in answering our queries and for helping us with our claim.   Lace Tan, 2022 [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height="80"][vc_column_text] Johanna is a one of a kind Financial Advisor, an FA who have a passion and genuine care for her clients. She deep dives on client needs, educates and presents prize of being financially independent beyond the monetary values that resulted in a goal driven and tailored fit policies for our Family.   She monitors us from time to time, recommends to tweak our policies as necessary and lastly, she is really approachable for questions. These are the many reasons why we keep recommending Johanna to our colleagues and friends.   Van Weisson Arroyo [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height="80"][vc_column_text] I have known Johanna and have worked with her since 2009. Thank you Johanna for being a friend, a confidant and my Financial Adviser!   Amy Lee Gotianse-Erni [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height="80"][vc_column_text] I met Ate Johanna in 2015 and that time I was disappointed with a relative of mine who mishandled my insurance policy. God Bless you always   Clarissa Angelique Pasamba [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height="80"][vc_column_text] Johanna has been my financial advisor for 25 years now and she would still be in touch whenever its my due date or just to say hello. She was always reliable, never late, a guiding hand in all things financial. She has taken care of my insurance, my memorial plan, home insurance, travel insurance and health insurance. I have no hesitation letting her take care of us because I know she will be there, just a call away. What's more, my experience with her makes me very confident referring her to family and friends.   Check Say [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height="100"][/vc_column][/vc_row] ### Templates #### New Post Published - {{POSTTITLE}} Hello {{NAME}}, We have published a new blog article on our website : {{POSTTITLE}} {{POSTIMAGE}} You can view it from this link : {{POSTLINK}} Thanks & Regards, Admin You received this email because in the past you have provided us your email address : {{EMAIL}} to receive notifications when new updates are posted. #### Welcome To Email Subscribers What can you achieve using Email Subscribers?Add subscription forms on website, send HTML newsletters.
